It was another edition of the Oklahoma Derby Saturday night at Oklahoma City's Taft Stadium and Tulsa Roughnecks FC was unsuccessful in its attempt to cool off the red-hot Oklahoma City Energy. The Energy got a goal in each half and defeated the Roughnecks 2-0.

Members of the Tulsa Roustabouts made the trip down the turnpike to support the Roughnecks in Saturday's edition of the Oklahoma Derby.

The loss dropped Tulsa's record this season to 4-6-2, (14 points) and kept the expansion Roughnecks in an 8th place tie with Portland Timbers 2 in the Western Conference standings.

The victory for the Energy (7-2-3) was their fifth straight in regular season play and their fourth straight shutout. It moved them back into first place in the West with 24 points.

With supporters from both clubs sitting on the south end of the stadium, the match began in lively fashion with each side having chances. Tulsa tested Evan Newton within the first two minutes, but the OKC keeper was up to the task with a diving save.

Energy forward Danni Konig opened the scoring in the 26th minute after Tulsa goalkeeper Zac Lubin denied Kyle Greig from close range. Konig converted the rebound to give Oklahoma City the 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later, the Roughnecks appeared to tie the match with header, but the shot was ruled to have not crossed the goal line, keeping the Energy lead in place.

Shortly after the halftime break, Oklahoma City doubled its lead when midfielder Gareth Evans headed home a corner kick from Chuy Sanchez to make it 2-0.

From there, the Energy were able keep the Roughnecks from getting back into the match despite Tulsa head coach David Irving using all five of his allowed substitutions.

Adam Black was denied by Newton, while substitute Andy Lorei created a pair of dangerous chances in the final ten minutes, but Tulsa could never find the back of the net.

The Roughnecks played the match without three of their regular starters. Leading goal scorer Gibson Bardsley and defender Kyle Venter were out with injuries, while center back Mason Grimes was away for World Cup qualifiers with the Guam National Team.

Tulsa will be back in action next Saturday, June 20, with its second trip of the season to Austin, Texas. It will be the third meeting of the year between the two teams with the Aztex posting a 2-0 win in Tulsa and the Roughnecks recording a 1-0 victory in Austin. Kickoff is slated for 8:00PM.
