Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced today they have signed center Matt Rogers and added five players to the roster on tryout agreements.
Rogers, 25, appeared in 27 games between two stints with the Cyclones in 2006-07, netting four goals and adding two assists for six points. Matt scored the game winning goal in 4-1 triumph over Trenton on March 16. His first professional point came via an assist on the game winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Wheeling on Nov. 18. Rogers also played six games with Chicago (UHL) and ten games win Rio Grande (CHL).
The five players signed to tryout agreements are forwards Steven Doherty and P.O. Mouton, defenseman Sean Perkins and goaltenders Lee Lansdowne and John Smith.
Doherty, 25, has played professionally as a forward for six games. His first professional goal came with Kalamazoo (UHL) during 2005-06. Mouton, 21, served as a center with Kahnawake (QJAHL) last season. He appeared in 35 games, collecting 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points. Perkins, 20, played with Vernon (BCHL) last season and averaged nearly a point per game (7-27-34, in 38 games). Lansdowne, 24, last played in 2005-06 with Milton Keynes (EPL), posting a 24-11-2 record with a 2.60 goals against average and a .901 save percentage. Smith, 21, served as a backup for the Cyclones for five games last season, but did not see any action.
"It's always good to bring guys to training camp and let them compete for spots," Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "Last year, we found Matt Rogers this way. Sometimes players get overlooked and you want to make sure that as many as possible are checked out. We want to make sure no stone is unturned. Last year we had Jarred Mohr and Robin Richards make the club through this process."
Rogers is the twelfth player on the Cyclones roster for 2007-08 (Jean-Michel Daoust, Barret Ehgoetz, Travis Fuller, Greg Gallagher, Billy Irish-Baker, Matt Macdonald, Conrad Martin, Gerard Miller, Scott Reynolds, Chad Starling and Avery Wilson are the others). Training camp for the team opens in October 5.
Tickets for the 2007-08 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. Ticket packages start as low as $66, call the Cyclones at 513-421-PUCK (7825) for more details. The Cyclones home opener is on Friday, October 26 versus the Trenton Devils at U.S. Bank Arena.
