Inferno Sign Battaglia

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) Sept. 26, 2007- The Columbia Inferno have signed winger Anthony Battaglia, head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today.

The 28-year-old Battaglia split the 2006-07 season between the Inferno and the Manchester Phoenix of the Elite Ice Hockey League. The Chicago native recorded 45 points (16 goals, 29 assists) and 20 penalty minutes in 47 games in Columbia and 13 points (six goals, seven assists) and zero penalty minutes in 13 games with Manchester.

"Anthony is a skilled forward whom we expect to provide leadership as one of our veterans," Mann said. "He had a solid 2006-07 season with the Inferno, and we welcome his strong two-way play back to Columbia."

In 303 career regular season ECHL games with Florida, Mississippi, Utah, Augusta and Columbia from 2002-03 through 2006-07, Battaglia has notched 207 points (91 goals, 116 assists) and 170 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 195-pound Battaglia also has eight points (three goals, five assists) and six penalty minutes in 11 career Kelly Cup playoff games.

Prior to turning pro, Battaglia attended Western Michigan University from 1998-99 through 2001-02, where he amassed 47 points (11 goals, 36 assists) and 52 penalty minutes in 139 career games.
