Chukars Win Wild Gane 12-10
The Idaho Falls Chukars came up big down the stretch with a 4 run top of the 8th inning, capped by a Nick Hutchins 2 run home run as the Chukars beat the Great Falls Voyagers 12-10 at Centene Stadium on Saturday night.
Tyler James extended his hitting streak to 15 games in the top of the first inning as he hit an opposite field home run off Voyagers LHP Konnor Pilkington. James went 3 for 4 with 4 runs scored and also stole 2 bases to extend his league lead to 36 on the year.
The Chukars led 2-1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning when lightning and rain delayed play for 42 minutes. After the delay the Voyagers scored 3 runs in the 2nd to make it a 4-2 game after 2 innings.
The Voyagers led 8-3 after 5 innings of play. The Chukars scored 2 runs in the 6th inning. Andres Martin drove home Chase Vallot with a triple. Martin later scored on a Brady Cox ground out to make it a 8-5 Great Falls lead. The Voyagers scored 2 more in the bottom of the 6th off Chukars reliever Jack Klein to take a 10-5 lead.
The momentum turned in favor of the Chukars in the top of the 7th inning as Idaho Falls scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th, the highlight of the inning being a Nate Eaton triple, his league leading 9th of the season.
With Great Falls leading 10-8 and All-Star Michael McCormick on the mound in the 8th inning, Kyle Kasser began a rally with a 1 out bunt single. He was followed by a James walk. Nate Eaton hit a huge triple to right-center field, easily scoring Kasser and James to tie the game. It was Eaton's 2nd triple of the game and 10th of the season. Caraballo struck out for the 2nd out of the inning. Nick Hutchins hit a 2 run home run to left-center to give the Chukars a 12-10 lead.
Jordan Floyd pitched 3 scoreless innings to close the win. Floyd struck out 4 and allowed only 2 hits to win his 2nd game of the year. Floyd got Lenyn Sosa to fly out to Tyler James to end the game with the tying run on 2nd base in the bottom of the 9th.
The Chukars end a 3 game losing streak. The final game of the 4 game series is Sunday afternoon. 4:00 pm first pitch. Jonathan Heasley goes for the Chukars. He will be opposed by RHP Jason Bilous.
Chukars notes: Nate Eaton extends his league lead with triples 9 and 10 on the year. He tripled in back to back innings in the 7th and 8th. Chase Vallot went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 doubles. Vallot now has 11 doubles on the season. Chase is hitting for a .418 average in road games this year. The Chukars have scored 26 runs in the first 3 games of the series. The Voyagers have scored 33 in 3 games. CJ Eldred got the start for Idaho Falls. He went 1.2 innings, allowing 4 hits before being pulled after the 42 minute rain delay in the 2nd.
