Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- For the third straight home game, Idaho Falls blew a five run lead. For the second straight home game, the Chukars played extra innings. A dropped fly ball by Dionis Hinojosa put the Greybirds in a winning position. Luis Valenzuela poked the winning run home in a 8-7 Chukars win.
Luis Valenzuela entered the game as a pinch hitter for Idaho Falls (23-23, 3-5) in the 10th inning, and knocked home Michael Hill to give the Chukars the victory. The Long Beach State product should have never been on the bases, as Dionis Hinojosa dropped a routine fly ball to center field.
Bryan Brickhouse gave the Chukars stability to start the ball game. For the second straight start, the right-hander went five innings, and left with a significant lead. Brickhouse allowed only one run on two hits.
The Brewers (17-30, 4-5) rallied from a five run deficit to tie it up. Four of the runs came in the eighth inning. Mariel Checo began the inning on the mound, but couldn't finish it. After two runs scored on a stolen base, and error, a two run home run by Sthervin Matos put the Helena within one.
After Brandon Downes doubled in another Chukars run in the eighth, the Brewers tied the game in the ninth. Luis Aviles single in one run, and scored the tying run on a Hinojosa single.
Idaho Falls walked a season high 12 times in the win. Samir Duenez finished with four runs batted in. The Chukars get the victory in the teams' first meeting since the 2013 Pioneer League Championship.
The Chukars continue the seven game homestand at Melaleuca Field on Monday. Idaho Falls takes on Helena in game two of the four game set. Sugar Ray Marimon is scheduled to pitch on a rehab assignment for the Greybirds.
