GF TAKES OPENER

The Voyagers took their series opener with the Orem Owlz 5-1 last night, thanks in large part to Jake Peter. Peter hit an opposite field homer in the first to give Great Falls the lead, then a three-run triple in as a part of the four-run third to tie his career-high with four RBIs. Patrick Palmeiro added an RBI single, and that was plenty for the Voyager pitching staff who combined to allow just one run on hits to the Owlz, who entering Monday had the best offense in the league in terms of batting average and runs scored.

MARTINEZ SHINES IN DEBUT

19-year old right-hander Luis Martinez made his Great Falls debut Monday night, after making his first seven appearances of the year with the AZL White Sox. Against one of the best offenses in the Pioneer league, the Venezuelan turned in five innings for the Voyagers, limiting Orem to one run on five hits while striking out six Owlz and earning the win.

PETER PROMOTED

After tying his career-high with four runs batted in Monday night, infielder Jake Peter was promoted to High-A Winston-Salem Tuesday, making him the first Voyager to make the jump to the Dash in 2014. In 37 games with Great Falls, Peter posted a .388 average, good for second in the Pioneer League. In his last three games with the Voyagers, the former Creighton Bluejay was 11-16, including a Voyager era (2008-present) record six knocks in Friday's 17-inning marathon loss to the Billings Mustangs.

NOT A CASE OF THE MONDAYS

With their 5-1 series-opening win over the Orem Owlz at Centene Stadium last night, Great Falls continued their streak of winning on Mondays, improving to 6-1 overall and winning their fourth straight contest on the first day of the work week. Monday is the best day of the week record wise for Great Falls, narrowly edging Thursday and Saturday (both 5-2).
