Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
GREAT FALLS, MT - To begin a seven-game roadtrip and a three-game series at Centene Field, the Idaho Falls Chukars were beaten by the Great Falls Voyagers by score of 7-3 on Tuesday night.
While falling short in the game, the Chukars started the scoring off in the top of the first inning. Riding the momentum of a win the previous night, Idaho Falls manufactured an error and a walk into a RBI double from outfielder Amalani Fukofuka and a RBI single by outfielder Roman Collins to put the Chukars up 2-0 early.
Unfortunately for the Chukars, the offensive surge would not last long. Over the rest of the game, they would only be able to muster up three hits against starter Evin Einhardt (W, 1-1) and two other Voyagers relievers.
Meanwhile, the Voyagers offense was able to break out and score six unanswered runs starting in the second inning off of Chukars starter Todd Eaton (L, 1-2). After a RBI double by catcher Joxelier Garcia put Great Falls on the board, the Voyagers got a two-run homer from shortstop Victor Velasquez to make the score 3-2. For Velasquez, the homer was the first of his four-year professional career.
Great Falls scored three more runs in the fourth inning on a pair of doubles by third baseman Johan Cruz and outfielder Antonio Rodriguez and a RBI single from second basemen Dante Flores. They tacked on an extra insurance run in the eighth inning as well.
For Idaho Falls, they scored their final run in the eighth inning on a RBI double by catcher Kyle Pollock. The five hits on the night was the second-lowest total of the season.
On the pitching side, the Chukars got another strong relief outing from lefty Brandon Thomas. The 21-year-old California native tossed 4.2 innings pitched, giving up just one unearned runs on three hits while striking out four. Thomas dropped his earned run average to a paltry 1.59 in 17 innings pitched this year.
Idaho Falls will play game two of a seven-game road trip and a three-game series against the Great Falls Voyagers. The Chukars will send RHP Carter Hope (Chukars debut) while the Voyagers will counter with a pitcher that is to be determined. First pitch is at 7:00 PM.
