Wausau Woodchucks News Release
WAUSAU-July 25, 2011-The Wisconsin Woodchucks entered Monday's game with hopes to prevent a five-game slide against the also slumping Eau Claire Express, however, that hope faded with three big innings for the Express, who scored 13 total runs in a rout of the Wisconsin Woodchucks .
Ryan Shober started things off for the Eau Claire Express with a lead off solo home run in the first inning.
That lead was erased by back-to-back, second inning doubles by Woodchucks own Mike Gerber and Robbie De La Cruz as the 'Chucks scored four runs on three hits in the inning.
The Eau Claire Express were not finished, however, scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. That lead did not diminish for the Express with another two-run inning in the third, and a five run inning in the sixth.
The Woodchucks were unable to get anything going at the plate or on the mound, however, as Jonathan Boersma gave up seven runs on eight hits through the third inning and got the loss in game one of an away-home-away series.
Tony Vocca had a four runs batted in, and led the way for the Eau Claire Express, who improved to 5-12, remaining last place. The Woodchucks drop another, their fifth straight, to move to 7--10.
The two teams will relocate to Athletic Park Tuesday night for game two.
