Rochester, MN - The Northwoods League has named Waterloo Bucks designated hitter Jeff Popick the NWL Player of the Night and left-handed pitcher Mike Wisecarver the NWL Pitcher of the Night for their efforts on Sunday, July 24 versus the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
Popick,a Mesa State College product, had a great afternoon at the plate Sunday. Popick (pronounced POP-ick) was 2-for-4 on the day and homered twice while scoring twice and driving in three runs. The 6'4'' Lakewood, Colorado native is now hitting .247 in 42 games played.
Wisecarverthrew 8.0 innings Sunday to take down Wisconsin, 7-3, at Athletic Park in Wausau, Wisconsin. Wisecarver, a 5'10'' lefty from Nicholls State University, improved his record to 6-0 with the 8.0 inning three-hitter. He struck out seven in the game and only allowed one run in the win.
The Bucks travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin tonight, facing the Green Bay Bullfrogs for the first of a three-game series at Joannes Stadium. The Bucks return home on Thursday, July 28 to start a five-game homestand. Season tickets and single-game tickets are currently on sale.
