'Chucks Beat Rockford, 8-5, in First of Homestand

Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks (13-10) beat the Rockford Rivets (11-13), 9-7, at Athletic Park in Wausau, Wisconsin.

The 'Chucks went out to a 4-0 lead after three innings, but Rockford answered with one in the fourth and four in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead, 5-4.

Wisconsin answered right back with four of its own in the bottom of the fifth.

Mac Caples (Virginia Tech) went 3-for-4 with a walk, three runs batted in and another pair scored. His two-RBI double headlined the Woodchucks' four-run fifth.

George Janca (Texas A&M) added his first two hits as a Woodchuck, as well as his first RBI. Jonathan Foster (Auburn) and Austin Blakeley (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) each scored twice. Ruben Cardenas (Cal State-Fullerton) scored three runs.

Scott Parker (San Francisco) threw five innings in his start and got the win.

His fellow Don, Connor Brewster (San Francisco) followed with a scoreless inning in relief.

Gordon Cardenas (Auburn) got the five-out save, his fourth save of the season. The Woodchucks are back in action at Athletic Park tomorrow (Sunday, June 26) against Rockford. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. They'll then take on first place Wisconsin Rapids in a doubleheader on Monday evening.
