Chris Morris announces retirement
May 18, 2006 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) Longtime Eskimo offensive lineman Chris Morris announced his retirement today. The tough and gritty tackle played 14 seasons for the Eskimos and capped off his remarkable career with a Grey Cup victory in November.
Eskimo CEO Hugh Campbell says, "Chris is an Eskimo in every sense of the word. He has been instrumental in the success of the football team. His toughness, willingness to play through injuries and general leadership are characteristics that he continually produced, but he also passed on to many of the younger players. Chris is in the top percentile of guys who came here, played great football, made Edmonton his home and became a part of the community. While he no longer plans to be active on the football field, I know he will continue to be productive in our community and as a high school educator."
Chris was Edmonton's first-round selection (8th overall) in the 1992 CFL Canadian College Draft. He started in his first-ever CFL game and he was the Eskimos' nominee for Outstanding Rookie of the Year. He went on to play 237 career games, 20 playoff games and five Grey Cups, winning the trophy three times (1993, 2003 and 2005).
Chris lives in Edmonton with his wife Stacey and their sons, Trevor and Tyler.
