Chris Mazza joins Kernels from Extended Spring Training

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Chris Mazza will join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training and that RHP Yorman Landa has been placed on the 7-day Disabled List, retroactive to May 23rd. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

The Twins selected Mazza in the 27th round of the 2011 First Year Player Draft out of Mento (CA) College. He spent last season at Cedar Rapids, appearing in seven games with no record, a 6.23 ERA and two saves. In 8.2 IP, he allowed 12 hits and six runs (all earned) with three walks and 10 strikeouts.

Landa goes on the DL with a right shoulder impingement. In 13 relief appearances for the Kernels he has posted a 3-1 record, 2.88 ERA and two saves. In 25 IP, he has allowed 18 hits and nine runs (eight earned) with 13 walks and 30 strikeouts.

Mazza is available and active for tonight's 4:00 pm game at Beloit. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with six players currently on the DL and one player on the Restricted List.

The Kernels continue a six game road trip in Beloit tonight at 4:00 pm. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, May 28th and open a six game home stand with games against Wisconsin and Burlington.
