KODAK - The Chicago Cubs announced a series of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster prior to this this evening's contest against the Chattanooga Lookouts at Smokies Stadium.

Outfielder Chris Denorfia has joined the Smokies on a Major League Rehab Assignment as part of his recovery from a left hamstring strain. In 12 games prior to the injury, the 34-year-old compiled a .429 batting average (9-21), adding two runs scored, one double and an RBI.

Combined over his ten-year Major League career, Denorfia has accumulated a .273 clip (539-1971), adding 273 runs scored, 93 doubles, 16 triples, 38 homers and 179 RBI in 717 contests for five different Big League clubs. The outfielder was signed by the Cubs as a free agent prior to this year on January 9, and was originally selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 19th round of the 2002 MLB Draft out of Wheaton College.

Denorfia also has experience in the Southern League, playing in three separate seasons with the Chattanooga Lookouts between 2002, 2004-05 while the club was the Double-A affiliate of the Reds. In 110 games with the Lookouts, the outfielder hit .228 (120-416) with 13 homers and 53 RBI.

Tennessee's roster now stands at 25 active players, in addition to Denorfia, and a revised roster is attached.

The Smokies and Lookouts face off tonight in the fourth game of their five-game road/home series, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Smokies Stadium. Tennessee is slatd to give the ball to RHP Felix Pena (4-2, 3.57), while Chattanooga is anticipated to counter with RHP Greg Peavey (4-1, 5.91).

Tickets for that game, as well as all remaining home contests at Smokies Stadium, are still available, and can be purchased online at smokiesbaseball.com, or by calling the Smokies Ticket Office at 865-286-2300.
