Chivas USA to host WSS Scholastic Soccer Cup tomorrow

June 2, 2006 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

The Scholastic Soccer Cup 2006 Senior Classic is a High School Soccer experience with a unique twist. This marks the second year of the Scholastic Soccer Cup, an event conceived by WSS-Warehouse Shoe Sale in 2005 to honor local student athletes who excel in athletics, academics and community service. This year's SHJ is co-sponsored by Adidas and the office of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

An important goal of this year's experience was to prepare ourselves and the participants to take the Scholastic Soccer Cup to the next level. As WSS grows, we expect the quality of our programming to only improve. Creating an experience that allows student athletes to play on the Chivas USA fields reveal that we are well on our way! The 2006 Scholastic Soccer Cup will be fun and exciting but also a wonderful experience for a company that is dedicated to advancing the programs we offer to our youth. This Scholastic Soccer Cup Game focuses on academics for the fact that substance is pivotal to all worthwhile causes or events.

Each senior and their guests will attend a special luncheon hosted by Warehouse Shoe Sale/Adidas and the office of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, with invited guests and a special keynote address. Below is a brief outline of the activities leading to the Scholastic Soccer Cup 2006 Soccer Classic on June 3, 2006.

Essays will be judged and a senior boy winner will be chosen from the essay entries. The winners will be honored during half-time of the Chivas USA game on June 3, 2006 at the Home Depot Center.
