Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, March 28, 2011) -Chivas USA and MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer's community outreach initiative, will launch a unique recycling contest at three local schools as part of the club's month-long "Greener Goals" campaign. The contest will challenge students, teachers and parents to fill twenty bins with recyclables from April 4th to April 15th, and will be judged on the amount of material collected within that time period. To ensure that the message goes beyond their school campus, students and parents will be encouraged to help their school win the top prize by helping to fill the recycling bins by bringing plastic bags from home.

The contest will kick-off at each of the local schools with a launch assembly, featuring fun, interactive presentations led by Chivas USA's community partner Heal the Bay, and will include appearances by Chivas USA players, the ChivaFighter, Heal the Bay's Bag Monster mascot, the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation's Robo-Blue mascot, and the Aquarium of the Pacific's Ray mascot.

The Chivas USA and MLS W.O.R.K.S. school recycling contest is one part of a month-long campaign to mobilize supporters, youth and families to join Chivas USA in its green effort. Other activities planned for later this month include a Chivas USA Beach Clean-Up day and will culminate with Chivas USA's first-ever "Greener Goals" game day.
