PORTLAND, Ore. ¬" The Portland Timbers open a two-game week on Tuesday as they play host to Chivas USA in a U.S. Open Cup play-in match at the University of Portland ¬â¢s Merlo Field at 7 p.m. The team then heads east to face the New England Revolution on Saturday at Gillette Stadium.
Tuesday ¬â¢s matchup against Chivas USA is the first round of qualifying matches in effort to participate in the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. It will be the Timbers ¬â¢ first competitive match in Portland as a Major League Soccer club. A limited number of remaining tickets, priced at $20, can be purchased through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.
A live radio broadcast will be available on Sportsradio 95.5 The Game and in Spanish on La Pantera 940AM, with a live webcast available at www.portlandtimbers.com.
At Merlo Field on Tuesday, the American Red Cross will be collecting donations to aid in relief efforts following the recent earthquake in Japan. Additionally, proceeds from the Timbers ¬â¢ Stand Together auction table at Merlo Field will also be donated toward relief efforts.
On a quick turnaround, the Timbers then head out for their third consecutive league match on the road as they take on the Revolution on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific) at Gillette Stadium. Saturday ¬â¢s match will be televised live on KPTV FOX 12 and in Spanish on Estrella TV, with radio broadcasts on 95.5 The Game and La Pantera 940AM.
The Revolution (1-0-1, 4pts) are coming off a 2-1 victory over D.C. United in their home opener last weekend. Unbeaten in the young season, New England sits among leaders in the Eastern Conference.
