Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Aug. 8, 2014) - Chivas USA announced today that the club has acquired forward Luis Bolaños via loan from Ecuador's First Division side Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito. Bolaños joins the Red-and-White after most recently appearing in 12 matches while on loan to Argentina's Club Atletico San Martin last year. The 29-year-old acquisition, who can also play out wide on the wing, will be eligible to make his Major League Soccer debut upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1-Visa.

"We need players with a finishing mentality who can try to give us a little bit of help scoring goals," said Chivas USA Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera. "Bringing someone in with experience at the international level is important for us and it is going to bring more possibilities for the team."

Bolaños appeared in 11 matches for Ecuador's National Team and made his pro debut with LDU Quito in 2002 after ascending through the club's youth ranks. The attacker was part of Liga de Quito's historic 2008 Copa Libertadores championship squad, which became the first team from Ecuador to claim the title in the prestigious tournament, and also played two seasons with Ecuador's Club Social y Deportivo Macará. After stints with Brazilian sides Santos FC and Sport Club Internacional beginning in 2009, Bolaños returned to his native country to join Barcelona Sporting Club. In 2012, the Quito native spent a season in the Mexican League with Club Atlas.

Chivas USA travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Portland Timbers in the series finale this Saturday at Providence Park. The Western Conference showdown kicks off at 7:30 p.m. (PT) and will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Deportes. Game action can also be heard on ESPN Deportes Radio KWKU 1220 AM.
