
Chihuahuas Hold off Isotopes, 13-9

El Paso, TX - The Chihuahuas plated runs in four of the first five innings, including a six-spot in the fourth, to claim game one, 13-9, Tuesday Night at Southwest University Park.
In the box, the Isotopes tallied 12 hits, five doubles and a homer. Jimmy Herron and Ryan Vilade led the way with three hits apiece. Sean Bouchard, Carlos Pérez and Coco Montes each drove in two runs while Montes recorded his 14th homer of the year.
The Chihuahuas got on the board first with two runs on two sac flies in the first frame. In the top of the second, Boswell and Herron connected on back-to-back doubles to make the score 2-1, with Herron collecting the RBI.
A Kyle Martin solo shot in the third gave El Paso a two-run advantage again.
El Paso broke the game open in the fourth inning with a six spot, including three run-scoring double, to take a 9-1 lead. The Isotopes chipped into the deficit with an RBI double by Lopes and two-run blast from Montes.
However, the Chihuahuas drove in three runs of their own in the home half of the fifth to extend their lead back to eight, 12-4.
Albuquerque scored two more in the sixth frame on a Bouchard sac fly and Pérez RBI single.
The Isotopes plated three runs in the seventh but couldn't draw any closer to the Chihuahuas.
Riley Smith took the loss after allowing nine runs on 11 hits over 3.2 innings.
Topes Scope: - The Isotopes are now 6-12 in series openers and 2-7 on the road. They have lost five of their last six on the road.
-The Chihuahuas have scored double-digit runs in six of the seven games played against the Isotopes this year.
-Smith allowed nine runs on the night, tied for the second-most runs allowed by an Isotopes starting pitcher this season. He also relented 11 hits, tied for the second-most hits allowed by an Isotopes starter. Smith also allowed 11 hits to El Paso on June 12.
-The Isotopes allowed six runs in the fourth frame, tied for the fourth-most runs relented in an inning. They have surrendered at least six runs in an inning 13 times this year.
-Albuquerque relented two first inning runs. On the year, they've allowed the most runs in all of MiLB in the first frame (107).
-Montes hit his 14th homer of the season-setting a new career-high. Over his last seven games, he is hitting .387 (12x31) with five homers and 16 RBI. Also has an eight-game hitting streak.
-Herron collected his second multi-hit contest of the year with the Isotopes (two-straight) and first three-hit game. He also reached base four times for the first time.
-Vilade tallied his second three-hit game of the year (June 15 vs Salt Lake). Over his last 10 games, he is hitting .475 (19x40) with three doubles, four homers, 11 RBI and four walks.
-Pérez tallied his 22nd multi-hit effort, second on the team, and his 18th multi-RBI game, also second on the team. He has a modest seven game hitting streak. During the streak he is averaging .414 (12x29) with three doubles, three homers and eight RBI.
-Smith has surrendered eight and nine runs, respectively in both of his starts in El Paso.
On Deck: The Isotopes and Chihuahuas will play game two Wednesday at 6:35 pm MT. Ashton Goudeau is set to start for Albuquerque while El Paso has yet to name a starter.
