Chiefs Sweep Bid Falls Short in 2-1 Loss

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs couldn't complete the three-game sweep of the Burlington Bees in a 2-1 loss on Sunday afternoon. The Chiefs are 11-6 in the second half and 48-38 overall.
The Chiefs got a run in the first inning against Bees spot-starter Trevor Foss. CJ McElroy Jr. lined a one-out single to left and stole second. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Steve Bean's single to right.
The Bees got the run back in the second against Chiefs starter Rob Kaminsky. After an out, Kaminsky walked Stephen McGee, gave up a single to Tyler Palmer and walked Trevor Gretzky to load the bases. Ryan Dalton hit a sacrifice fly to right to tie the game at one.
Burlington broke the tie in the ninth against Zach Loraine. Gretzky lined a leadoff single to right and got to second on Loraine's pickoff-attempt throwing error. Dalton followed with a sacrifice bunt and Loraine threw to third but threw the ball away allowing Gretzky to score as Dalton took third base. Steve Sabatino relieved Loraine and stranded Dalton at third. Juan Herrera led off the bottom of the ninth with a bloop double but didn't make it past second base.
Kaminsky pitched the first 6 1/3 innings allowing one run on three hits with four walks and one strikeout. Loraine (1-1) tossed the next 1 2/3 innings allowing an unearned run with two hits and two strikeouts to take the loss. Sabatino retired all three batters he faced with a pair of strikeouts.
