Bees Edge Chiefs in Series Finale

(Peoria-IL)- Two errors in the top of the ninth inning helped the Bees grab a 2-1 win, taking the series finale against the Peoria Chiefs on Sunday at Dozer Park in Peoria.

Peoria took the lead first thanks to Steve Bean single scoring CJ McElroy, giving the Chiefs a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

With loaded the bases and one out in the top of the second inning, Ryan Dalton hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Stephen McGee and tying the game at one.

After being held to just one run on two hits, the Bees were able to chase Chiefs' starter Rob Kaminsky from the game in the sixth inning, putting runners at first and second. Reliever Zach Loraine came in and doused the flames, keeping the game tied at one in the seventh.

Trevor Gretzky led off the top of the ninth with a single to right and then moved to second base on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt. With Gretzky at second base and no outs, Ryan Dalton put down a sacrifice bunt, but pitcher Zach Loraine threw to third and over the head of third baseman Michael Schulze, allowing Gretzky to score, giving the Bees the 2-1 lead.

Ben Carlson (2-1) stranded the tying run at third in the bottom of the ninth inning, picking up the win. Chiefs' reliever Zach Loraine (1-1) was charged with the loss.

The Burlington Bees (47-39) are off on Monday, before heading to Beloit to start a three game series with the Beloit Snappers on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Garrett Nuss makes the start for the Bees against Hunter Adkins for Beloit.
