Velazquez's Inside the Park HR Sparks Hawks 8-7 Win

(South Bend, IN)- Andrew Velazquez hit an inside the park homerun to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning and South Bend took that momentum and turned it into a 8-7 win over the Captains. The homer for Velazquez was his sixth on the season and the Silver Hawks swept the Captains in the three game set. The Silver Hawks won the game on a bases loaded walk-off walk.

South Bend scored a run on an RBI single from Andrew Velazquez in the bottom of the second inning and the score was 1-0 Silver Hawks. The Hawks added another in the third inning. Marty Herum singled home Chuck Taylor and the score was 2-0 Hawks.

The Captains got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Lake County used three singles and a wild pitch to get on the board when Eric Haase scored. The score was 2-1.

South Bend made it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Andrew Velazquez knocked in a run on a fielder's choice. In the top of the fifth, Lake County came right back and made it a 3-2 game when Clint Frazier hit an opposite field homerun, a solo shot, his seventh of the season.

South Bend scored three runs in the fifth inning and took a 6-2 lead. South Bend used three hits in the inning to score the four runs and take the commanding lead. Lake County scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to bring the game back to within one run at 6-5.

In the ninth inning with two outs, Torsten Boss was hit-by-a-pitch to bring the go-ahead run to the plate in the person of Grant Fink. Fink who was already 4-4 on the day with one RBI smacked his ninth homer of the season over the left field wall and the Captains took the lead 7-6 heading to the bottom of the ninth inning.

LHP Luis Lugo (5-7) started the game for Lake County and did not get a decision. Lugo pitched four and one third innings and allowed eight hits, six earned runs, four walks and six strikeouts. Lugo threw three wild pitches. Justin Brantley did not allow a run in two and two thirds innings pitched. Brantley allowed one hit and struck out four. Trevor Frank (3-4) took the loss after going one and one third innings and allowing two hits and allowing two runs. Frank also fanned two. Anderson Polanco walked in the game winner.

RHP John Omahen (4-2) started for South Bend and didn't get a decision. Omahen pitched six innings and allowed nine hits two earned runs and fanned five. The win went to Silvino Bracho (2-0) after he blew the save in the ninth inning, but South Bend rallied for the win. South Bend used three pitchers out of the bullepen.

The Captains will enjoy an off-day on Monday and will open a seven game home stand against the Lansing Lugnuts and the Great Lakes Loons. First Pitch on Tuesday Night against Lansing is at 7:00 PM from Classic Park in Eastlake, OH.
