Bandits shutout Rattlers in game one

DAVENPORT, IA - Anthony Banda struck out ten Quad Cities River Bandits in game one of Sunday's doubleheader at Modern Woodmen Park. Chris Lee held the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scoreless through six innings. It was Lee who picked up the win as the Bandits got some timely hits to beat the Rattlers 5-0.

The River Bandits (44-41 overall, 9-7 second half) took advantage of an error in the second inning to score three unearned runs for an early lead. Chase McDonald's reached on a throwing error after his routine grounder to short to start the Quad Cities second. Brett Booth singled with one out to put two runners on base. Banda struck out Brian Holberton for the second out. Thomas Lindauer followed the strikeout with a home run to left. The three-run blast gave Quad Cities a 3-0 lead.

McDonald sparked another rally for the River Bandits in the bottom of the third with a two-out single. Ronnie Mitchell's triple to center scored McDonald from first to make the score 4-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, McDonald cashed in a run with an RBI single. Jose Fernandez drew a walk, stole second, and stole third. McDonald drove a one-out single through a drawn-in infield and the Bandits led 5-0.

The Timber Rattlers (45-40, 9-7) struggled to get anything against Lee. Chris McFarland had a single in the first and a single in the fourth, but did not score. In the fifth, Rafael Neda singled and Jose Pena walked with one out, but Lee got a pair of flyouts to right to end the threat. In the sixth, Johnny Davis reached on a bunt single and Clint Coulter doubled with two outs to put runners on the corners. Taylor Brennan lined a 1-0 pitch right at the second baseman for the final out of the inning.

Banda struck out ten over five innings to set a new single game high as a professional for strikeouts, but allowed five runs - two earned - on six hits to take the loss. The defeat ended Banda's personal three-game winning streak. Lee walked one and struck out one to earn his second straight victory.

Chris Cotton closed out the Rattlers with a scoreless ninth. This game was just the third time the Timber Rattlers have been shutout this season.

Game two will start around 6:30pm.
