Chiefs Score Late to Defeat Portland 4-2

Drayson Bowman scored a short-handed goal with five minutes remaining to break a tie and the Spokane Chiefs knock off the Portland Winter Hawks by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday night in front of 4.013 at the Spokane Arena.

Bowman finished off a rebound of a Steven Kuhn entry shot for the game winner. Tyler Johnson would add an insurance goal just under three minutes later for the Chiefs.

Spokane scored the opening goal just 22 seconds into the game when Ryan Letts scored on a wrist shot from the slot. Portland tied it up six minutes later when Chris Francis took a feed from Travis Bobbee behind the defense scoring on a breakaway. The Chiefs regained the lead on a rebound goal by Brady Calla.

Portland tied the scored on a two-man advantage halfway through the final period when Radim Valchar scored his fourth goal in four games, off a feed from Travis Ehrhardt. Francis assisted on the goal for a two point night.

Dustin Donaghy and Steve Kuhn had two assists for the Chiefs.

Ian Curtis went the distance in net for Portland, stopping 44 of 48 shots in the loss while Dustin Tokarski handled 18 of 20 for the victory for Spokane.

On special teams, Portland finished 1 for 6 on the power play with a short-handed goal against while Spokane went 0 for 4 with the man advantage.

Next up, the same two teams battle at 7:30 at the Rose Garden in Portland.
