Pink in the Rink Night a Huge Success

January 14, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Chilliwack Bruins News Release

The Chilliwack Bruins would like to thank everyone who helped to make our second annual Pink in the Rink Night a huge success. Thanks to the hard work of everyone who helped in the planning of the event and the generosity of our fans more than $7500 was raised for the Canadian Cancer Society during Tuesday night's game vs the Tri City Americans.

"This was a very special night for our organization," stated Bruins Director of Marketing Barry Douglas. "We'd like to thank everyone who participated in making the event such a big success. It's our goal to build on this and make it an even bigger event next season."

Funds were raised in a variety of manners. Selected Bruins players used special pink sticks during the game which were auctioned off. Proceeds from the 50/50 and the Chuck A Puck contest as well as partial proceeds from selected pink Bruins merchandise sold during the game were all donated to the cause. Cash donations were also made by many in attendance and online. Many fans and Bruins staff members showed their support by having their heads shaved during the game.

"This was a big night for us," commented Canadian Cancer Society Community Fundraising Coordinator Tim Dixon. "Bruins fans responded in a big way and we thank them for their unbelievable generosity."
