Chiefs Score 3-1 Win Over Everett

Tyler Johnson, Justin McCrae and Seth Compton all scored goals on Thursday night as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the Everett Silvertips in Kennewick at the Tri-City Americans annual pre-season tournament. The Chiefs evened their record at 2-2 in the pre-season and will take on the hosts Saturday night at the Toyota Center.

Dustin Tokarski saw his first action of the pre-season and stopped all four shots in net during the first period. James Reid came in for relief in the second and was 21 for 22 in 40 minutes of play.

Johnson opened the scoring at 13:13 of the first with assists from 16-year-old T.C. Cratsenberg and 15-year-old Post Falls native Tanner Mort. McRae's unassisted goal at 2:52 of the second made it 2-0 and Compton, from Brett Bartman, pushed it to a 3-0 lead at 8:28. Bartman, a second year defenseman, was also playing in his first game of the pre-season.

The Silvertips lone goal came at 19:32 of the second from Shane Harper.

Spokane outshot Everett 28-26 and finished 5-5 on the penalty kill and 0-4 on the power play.

The Chiefs will play one home pre-season game; Friday, September 12th when they host the Kelowna Rockets at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.

Spokane will play the first game in the WHL regular season when they travel to Cranbrook to take on the Kootenay Ice on Thursday, September 18th.

The home portion of the regular season will begin on Saturday, September 27th when the Chiefs host the Tri-City Americans on Bud Light Opening Night. The Chiefs and The Black Book by Hagadone Directories will be handing out replica banners to the first 3,000 fans through the gates as well as full season ticket holders.
