Blake Gal scored twice and Dustin Tokarski stopped 34 shots as the Spokane Chiefs blew out the Portland Winter Hawks 8-0 on Friday night in the Spokane Arena. In their last four home games the Chiefs have scored 31 goals after outputs of 11, 5, 7 and tonight's 8. The Chiefs are 9-2 in their last 11 home games and remain eight points behind the Tri-City Americans for first place in the U.S. Division.
Brady Calla, David Conrad and Gal all scored in the first to make it 3-0 Spokane. In the second, Tyler Johnson's break away pushed the lead to 4-0 at 9:31. Levko Koper and Gal finished the scoring in the second and Mitch Wahl and Steve Kuhn ended it with two in the third.
Tokarski lowered his goal against average to 1.87, posted his seventh shutout of the season and 15th of his career, both franchise records.
Kuhn and Johnson enjoyed two point nights.
Spokane outshot Portland 45-32, went 2-6 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill.
The Chiefs will host the Tri-City Americans on Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd of 10,538. Over 9,900 fans enjoyed Friday night's game, the Chiefs 21st win at home and 41st overall.
Saturday night's Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Covey Run Winery, KXLY 4 and Spokane's River 99.9 FM will be one of four home games remaining on the season. The Chiefs will play three more in the month of March before the playoffs start.
