Durham, NC - One night after the Bulls dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to Syracuse, the Chiefs pummeled Durham for 16 runs on 16 hits and six walks while blanking the home team, 16-0 on Friday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Bulls left-handed starter J.P. Howell (0-1) walked the first two batters of the game and then gave up a three-run home run to Chiefs left fielder Adam Lind. Howell settled down after the first inning and lasted through the fifth, surrendering two more earned runs and leaving with his team down 6-0. The Bulls sent right handed reliever Tony Peguero to the mound in the sixth, but he allowed eight runs, including John-Ford Griffin's two-out, three-run home run in his second at bat of the inning. Steve Andrade replaced Peguero only to surrender a solo home run to catcher Sal Fasano before getting the final out. The Chiefs added one in the eighth inning to round out the scoring.

Chiefs starter Geremi Gonzalez (1-0) surrendered only four hits and no walks, while striking out nine in just five innings. The Chiefs bullpen threw four perfect innings to close out the game.

The Bulls mustered only four hits, including two doubles from left fielder Chris Richard and Joel Guzman.
