Clinton LumberKings News Release
Peoria, IL - In the most lopsided loss of the season the Clinton LumberKings fell 13-1 to the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday afternoon at Dozer Park. The Chiefs (19-16) twice rallied for five runs in an inning to hand the LumberKings (19-15) their second straight loss.
The LumberKings started the scoring to take a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Peoria starter Evan Guillory walked Jack Larsen to open the inning, a Ryan Costello single to right then moved Larsen to third with one out. Griefer Andrade then drove home the run with a sacrifice fly to right.
Guillory (4-2) allowed no more to the LumberKings as he worked six innings to pick up his fourth win of the season. He allowed five hits while walking just one and striking out three.
The Chiefs came right back in the bottom of the second to tie the game at one. JR Davis chased home Dennis Ortega with the first of his three hits. Davis ended his 2018 season debut going 3-for-4 with four RBI.
Oliver Jaskie, who started for Clinton, allowed two more Chiefs runs to score in the bottom of the fourth inning. David's second hit of the game, and third RBI, came with the bases loaded and put the Chiefs on top for good.
Jaskie (1-3) was given the loss for his time out. He worked four plus innings allowing four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out one.
Peoria added to their lead with the first of two five run rallies in the bottom of the fifth. Ortega capped the fifth inning rally with a two-run home run to left, his first long fly of the season.
Adonis De La Cruz followed Jaskie out of the bullpen and was hit hard over his 2.2 innings of work. The righty allowed a professional career high nine runs, all earned, while issuing three walks and striking out two.
The LumberKings will continue their four-game series with the Peoria Chiefs with game three on Wednesday morning. Clinton will throw right-hander Ryne Inman (1-2, 4.73) while the Chiefs will counter with righty Alvaro Seijas (1-2, 2.25). First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
