Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - A pair of goals from rookie forward Blake Swetlikoff wasn't enough to complete the comeback Saturday night as the Spokane Chiefs suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to the Everett Silvertips. The game marked 250 career Western Hockey League games for Chiefs captain Eli Zummack, all of which have come with Spokane.
The Chiefs edged out the Silvertips in shots on goal in the first period 11-10, but it was Everett captain Cole Fonstad that accounted for the period's lone goal, firing a wrister from the blueline that made its way past Chiefs netminder Mason Beaupit to give the Tips the 1-0 lead entering the first break.
Everett opened the second period on the power play and didn't wait long to capitalize as Jackson Berezowski extended the Silvertips' lead to 2-0 just 30-seconds into the frame. Swetlikoff scooped up a rebound in the crease and flipped it into the top of the Everett net for a power play goal and to cut the deficit in half at 2:12. As the period wound down, Swetlikoff connected for his second goal on the man-advantage of the period, this time deflecting a wide Matt Leduc wrister under the blocker of Everett goalie Dustin Wolf to tie the game at 2-2.
Following a scoreless third period in which the Chiefs outshot the Silvertips 8-5, the game headed to overtime, where Fonstad put one by Chiefs netminder Mason Beaupit at 3:06 to claim the victory.
The Chiefs finished the night 2-4 on the power play and 3-4 on the penalty kill. Everett outshot Spokane 35-34.
