Jared Cowen and Team Canada will play for gold on Saturday. Thanks to a 3-0 record, including a 9-1 drubbing of Slovakia on Thursday, Canada has finished in first place in their pool at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Under-18 Championships and will play Russia for the gold medal on Saturday in the Czech Republic.

Cowen, a Chiefs defenseman, is an alternate captain and former Chiefs head coach Bill Peters is serving the same role for Team Canada.

Canada opened the tournament with a 5-3 win over Switzerland on Tuesday and followed it up with a 4-3 victory over Sweden on Wednesday.

Russia beat Finland on Thursday for the right to advance to the championship game.

Canada has won gold four of the last five years at the tournament.

JOHNSON INVITED TO COYOTES CAMP

The Phoenix Coyotes have announced that Spokane Chief Tyler Johnson will attend the NHL club's rookie camp and will play in two games against the Los Angeles Kings' rookies on Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Johnson led all Chiefs rookies last year with 13 goals and 35 points and was named the MVP of the WHL Finals after scoring three goals, including two game winners, in four games. Johnson finished +17 in 69 regular season games.

Coyotes Managing Partner-Head Coach Wayne Gretzky will be behind the bench for the team.

CAMP BEGINS AUGUST 21ST

The Spokane Chiefs will hold their Annual Fall Camp in the Spokane Arena with ice sessions, including scrimmages, practices and goalie sessions, on Thursday, August 21st and Friday, August 22nd. The Saturday, August 23rd sessions will move to Eagles Ice-A-Rena. Camp will conclude with the Red-White scrimmage on Sunday, August 24th in the Spokane Arena.

All ice sessions are free and open to the public.

A full schedule for the camp will be released early next week.
