
Chiefs Hang on For 2-1 Win, Start Season 2-0

Burlington, IA - With the tying and winning runs on base, Peoria Chiefs closer Rocky Roquet dug deep for back to back strikeouts to preserve the a 2-1 win and give starter Rafael Dolis his first professional win over the Burlington Bees Monday night. With the win the Chiefs start 2-0 on the 2007 season after having two consecutive games snowed out over the weekend in Wisconsin.
After leaving a running in scoring position in the first inning, Peoria got on the board with a pair of extra base hits in the second. With one out, Yusuf Carter doubles off the right field wall and moved to third on a ground out by Dylan Johnston. With two down, DJ Lewis put the Chiefs on top 1-0 with an opposite field double down the right field line.
The Bees threatened in the second against Chiefs starter Rafael Dolis. With one out, Jase Turner drew a walk before Dolis struck out Joe Dickerson. Brady Everett collected a sharp single to left putting two on with two out. Dolis got of the jam by getting Scott Lucas to chase a high fastball to end the frame.
Peoria started off the third with another rally. Matt Camp executed a perfect bunt single down the third base line and came around to score on a double by Andrew Lopez for a 2-0 Chiefs lead. Burlington cut the lead in half against Dolis in the fifth. Dickerson led off with a single and moved to third on an errant pick off throw by Dolis. After a one out walk to Lucas, Dolis uncorked a wild pitch allowing Dickerson to score Burlington's first run.
Dolis set career highs with five innings pitched and eight strikeouts. He allowed just two hits and one unearned run while walking a pair. Jose Pina tossed one scoreless inning of relief while striking out two. Jayson Ruhlman retired all six batters he faced in two innings with one strikeout along the way. Rocky Roquet allowed a lead off single and walk in the ninth before striking out the last two batters to nail down his first save of the season.

DJ Lewis (LF) & Rafael Dolis (RHP) - Lewis went 1-for-3 with a RBI and a walk. He drove in the Chiefs first run in the 2nd inning. Dolis picked up his first career win with five innings in which he allowed just two hits and an unearned run while striking out eight.
Notes... Prior to tonight, Dolis had never thrown more than three innings in a contest...Peoria pitchers have struck out 29 batters in two games this season...Burlington was 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position...The Chiefs have won seven straight games at Community Field...The two teams wrap up the two-game commuter series on Tuesday as the Chiefs send RHP Jose Ceda (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against RH Harold Mozingo (0-0, 0.00)...Game time is 7:00 pm...The broadcast begins with the pregame show on www.peoriachiefs.com at 6:45.
