Johnstown Chiefs News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs gained two critical points with a 5-2 win on home ice Friday night thanks to their determination to score and the stonewall glove of Ian Keserich.
Johnstown's record stands at 28-18-2 which places it second in the North Division, three points behind Cincinnati.
Reading marched out in the first period spraying shots on net, but goaltender Ian Keserich turned aside all 15 threats. While Readings' chances on goal were plentiful, the Chiefs Petr Pohl cut down mid-ice and buried his own rebound on a 2-on-1 break set up by Blair Yaworski at 16:54. The Chiefs held the 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes
While more than doubling their first period shot output, the Chiefs took a 3-1 lead in the second. Mike Bartlett put the Chiefs up by two when he whipped a shot in from below the left faceoff circle. At 7:03, on the power play, Yaworski attacked the net getting two quick shots off while Todd Griffith sent the third attempt past Reading goalie Michael Ouzas. Reading had gotten within one goal when Dan Rudisuela flipped a shot past Keserich on a 2-on-1 with Tyler Doig.
The third started with a furious pace as David Nimmo got the visitors back within one when he fired a shot in from the right wing 1:15 into the final frame. Johnstown wasted no time in answering when Griffith sent his second of the game home at 1:54. Ryan Card got a shot on from the left point, and Griffith potted the rebound after Ouzas made the toe save. Trevor Hendrikx added an insurance marker on the power play in his first game back since January 10. It was his fourth of the season and was set up by Bartlett and Pohl.
Bartlett (1G, 2A), Griffith (2G), Yaworski (2A), and Pohl (1G, 1A) each had multiple point games.
Keserich's 36-save effort earned his ninth win of the season while the Chiefs' power play went 2-for-3
