
Bombers Cut Down Wheeling 5-2

Dayton, OH - Team captain Greg Labenski had two goals and four points as the Bombers defeated the Wheeling Nailers 5-2 on Friday night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center in front of a crowd of 5,922.
The Bombers lit the lamp first as Justin Bowers scored on the power play, his 14th of the year, assisted by Greg Labenski and Dan Riedel at 2:25 into the period. The lead wouldn't be long as the Nailers answered back just :30 later with a shorthanded goal. Nino Musitelli regained the lead for Dayton with his 12th goal of the year at the fifteen minute mark. Justin Chwedoruk and Les Reaney earned helpers on the play. Wheeling fought back in the closing minutes and again tied the game when Erik Johnson put the puck past Dayton's David Shantz. At the end of the first, the Nailers were outshooting the Bombers 13-9.
The Bombers poured on the offence in the second period when Jarret Lukin tallied his 18th of the season at 7:34 on the power play, assisted by Labenski and Kelly Perrault. Labenski recorded his third point of the night with a goal in the closing minute of the frame from Musitelli and Chwedoruk. Dayton outshot Wheeling 12-4 in the period en route to the two-goal lead.
In the third, Labenski netted his second goal of the night, this time with an empty netter, assisted by Perrault and Bowers to give the Bombers a three goal advantage.
The Bombers finished the night 2 of 9 on the power play and were a perfect 4 of 4 on the penalty kill. Shantz was 20 of 22 for the win, while Wheeling's Curtis Darling took the loss after a 29 of 34 performance.
Tomorrow night the Nailers and Bombers will rematch at 7:30 p.m. at Troy's historic Hobart Arena. There will be a Skate with the Bombers immediately following the game (skates are required and will be available for rental for $1).
