
Chiefs Defeat Silvertips, 2-1

Spokane, WA - The Spokane Chiefs stopped the Everett Silvertips winning streak Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory. Kellan Tochkin scored for Everett receiving assists from Scott MacDonald and Clayton Cumiskey, while Kent Simpson made 31 saves in a strong effort in goal. For the Silvertips it is their first loss since December 31st, 2009 going 33 days without being defeated. During that streak Everett compiled a franchise record 14 consecutive wins.
Spokane scored the first goal of the night at 6:59 of the first period. Tyler Johnson scored his 22nd goal of the season to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Tochkin evened up the score for Everett at 12:50 for his 19th goal of the year. Everett and Spokane were tied with 10 shots a piece after 20 minutes of play.
Simpson stopped all 14 shots faced while Spokane goalie James Reid stopped all four Silvertips shots in the second period to keep the score tied, 1-1.
The Chiefs took back the lead at 10:37 on the power play. Kyle Beach scored after banking the puck off Simpson from behind the net to score his 35thgoal of the year and give Spokane a 2-1 lead. Simpson stopped Blake Gal with a split-legged glove save on a Spokane penalty shot late in the third period. Everett received a late power play but was held off by Spokane leading to a 2-1 Chiefs victory.
This brings the 'Tips record to 33-17-2-1 with 69 points in 53 games played. Everett heads to Langley, B.C. to take on the Vancouver Giants this Friday night at 7:30 pm.
