Johnstown Chiefs News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have claimed defenseman Luke Lucyk (LOO-sik) off of waivers.
A 6-0, 200-pound defenseman from Fox Point, Wisconsin, Lucyk is in his first full season of professional hockey. The 23-year-old played his college hockey at Notre Dame and was part of a very successful two-year run for the Irish. He played six games and registered two points (1G, 1A) for the 2007-08 team which was the first in school history to advance to the national championship game. The following season Lucyk skated in 38 games and helped the Irish pick up the CCHA regular season and post season championship. Prior to turning pro Lucyk also played three seasons with the Tri-City Storm of the USHL.
Lucyk has played 19 games this season for the Trenton Devils and produced one assist, 18 penalty minutes, and an even plus/minus rating. He also spent time this season in the Central Hockey League registering nine games with the Texas Brahmas. Lucyk is expected to be in the line up when the Chiefs take on the Trenton Devils tomorrow night at the Sun National Bank Center.
Mark your calendars! The Chiefs return to home ice on Friday, March 26 against the Toledo Walleye at 7:05. The Chiefs will be wearing special U.S. Marines themed jerseys for one night only.
