The Syracuse Chiefs beat the Pawtucket Red Sox, 9-0, Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium. Pedro Severino, Matt Skole and Brian Goodwin combined to drive in seven runs with two hits each. Lucas Giolito threw one perfect inning for Syracuse, but was removed to remain an option to start for Washington on Saturday.

Syracuse (58-72) started the scoring in the opening inning against Roenis Elias. Goodwin walked and Neftali Soto singled with one out. Skole this hit a high pop up into shallow left field that dropped under Bryce Brentz's glove along the line, and rolled away to allow both runners to score on the eventual Skole triple. Severino followed with a sacrifice fly to score Skole for a 3-0 lead.

Pawtucket (67-62) had its best chance to score in the second. After Aaron Laffey started the second inning in relief of Giolito, three straight PawSox batters reached on two singles and a walk. But the PawSox could not score as Laffey got Brennan Boesch to fly out and Deven Marrero grounded into a double play to end the threat. Laffey ended up retiring 11 PawSox in a row at one point, allowing just three hits in five scoreless innings.

The Chiefs added two more in the third. Soto was hit by a pitch and Skole doubled to put runners on second and third. Severino then singled home both with his second and third RBIs of the game for a 5-0 advantage.

Severino continued his big night, hitting a one-out double in the sixth. Two batters later, Caleb Ramsey singled up the middle, and Severino beat the throw by Castillo to the plate for a 6-0 Chiefs lead. Christopher Bostick then doubled home Ramsey to push the lead to 7-0.

Goodwin finished off the scoring in the ninth. After Michael Taylor was hit by a pitch, Goodwin homered over the short wall in right off Ramon Mendez to cap the scoring at 9-0.

Syracuse returns home Wednesday to open its final homestand of the season, starting with a two-game series against the first-place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Taylor Hill is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Luis Severino for the RailRiders.
