Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Willy Adames homered for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium to give the fans something to remember. However, the Peoria Chiefs won the game 6-5 in ten innings.
The Chiefs (23-28) took the lead in the second inning. Ramon Mendoza singled with one out. Luis Rodriguez doubled down the line in left with two outs and Mendoza scored just ahead of the throw to the plate.
Wisconsin starting pitcher Alexander Cornielle worked five innings and just gave up the one run. He allowed three hits, walked none, and struck out four for a no decision.
Je'Von Ward got the Rattlers (18-32) back to even with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the third. Ward lined a 2-2 pitch over the wall in left-center for his fourth home run of the season.
That homer was the only run allowed by Tink Hence, the Chiefs starting pitcher and one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. Hence completed five innings for the first time in his professional career and was in line for his first pro win after the Peoria offense scored three times in the top of the sixth inning.
Osvaldo Tovalin doubled in the first run of the inning for his thirteenth RBI in sixteen games against the Timber Rattlers this season. Rodriguez struck again with a two-out, two-run triple to give the Chiefs a 4-1 lead.
The first two Wisconsin hitters were retired by Zane Mills in the bottom of the sixth. Then, Adames launched a 400-foot homer to left with an exit velocity of 105-mph.
That sparked the Rattlers to four more hits to tie the game. Matt Wood and Joe Gray Jr singled to get on base. Ben Metzinger and Eduardo García followed with RBI singles to even the score 4-4. Ward was robbed of a potential RBI single on a diving play in the hole by second baseman Francisco Hernandez or the Rattlers would have gone ahead right there.
It would be Peoria to take the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Victor Scott II had a lead-off triple. Darlin Moquete drove in Scott with a sacrifice fly.
García tied the game again with a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the eighth. Metzinger had been hit by a pitch to get on base. García drove a 3-2 pitch to right-center and Metzinger raced home with the tying run.
Both teams had chances in the ninth inning, but neither scored and the game went to the tenth.
Thomas Francisco singled with two outs in the top of the frame to score the go-ahead run. The Rattlers could not score the placed runner at second in the bottom of the inning and the Chiefs held on for the win.
Wisconsin won the series 4-2, but the Chiefs hold a 10-8 edge in the season series. The teams have three games remaining in the season series.
Adames went 2-for-4 in five plate appearances. He flew out to left in the first, doubled in the fourth, was intentionally walked in the seventh, and flew out to right in the ninth to go along with his homer in the sixth inning.
The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday. They begin a two-week road trip to Michigan on Tuesday with a game against the West Michigan Whitecaps. Game time at LMCU Ballpark is 5:35pm CDT. The broadcast is on AM1280 WNAM starting with the Community Blood Center at 5:15pm. Fans can listen on the radio, on the First Pitch app, or at this link. The internet video feed is available to subscribers of Bally Live, too.
