Spokane Chiefs News Release

The Spokane Chiefs have acquired goaltender Kevin Opsahl from the Portland Winter Hawks for future considerations. Opsahl has appeared in three games this season stopping 82 of 90 shots for a .911 save percentage and has recorded a 3.20 GAA with a 1-2 record.

The Trail, BC native spent the first portion of the 2003-04 season as the Winter Hawks back-up and appeared in seven games posting a 2.93 goals against average, .910 save percentage and 3-2 record. The 18-year-old was then reassigned to Trail where he played for the BCHL's Smoke Eaters and played 11 games, going 6-4-0.

"With Kevin coming available it was an opportunity for us to upgrade our goaltending. Kevin has valuable experience and we're expecting the combination of Jim Watt and him to give us quality goaltending," Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said.

In a related move, goaltender Kirk Irving has been released from the Chiefs roster and is awaiting reassignment.

Opsahl is expected to be in Spokane for Saturday's game versus the Seattle Thunderbirds as the Chiefs and Classy 99.9 FM celebrate Halloween. Fans are encouraged to dress in their costumes as the Arena will be the best (and warmest) place in town to Trick-or-Treat with stations set up during pre-game. Also, there will be a costume contest for the best of the best.

Tickets for all Chiefs home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
