Chicago Sky Activate Yueru; Release Maley

CHICAGO - The Chicago Sky activated Li Yueru and released Anneli Maley from her hardship exemption contract, the team announced today.

At 6'7", Yueru is a standout center for the Chinese national team, who averaged 14.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and shooting 78.6% from the field in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

As a three-time Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) champion, she has played for the Chinese national team in the FIBA Asia Cup, the FIBA World Cup and the 2020 Olympic Games.

Yueru joined the team on March 30th, 2022 after the Sky acquired the rights in a sign and trade agreement. She was drafted by the Atlanta Dream in the third round (35th overall) of the 2019 WNBA Draft. Her rights were acquired by Los Angeles on Feb. 5th, 2022.

Maley joined the Sky on March 11th, 2022 after signing a training camp contract. She was waived by the Sky on May 4th, 2022 and was re-signed to a hardship exemption contract on May 10th, 2022. Maley was most recently named MVP in the Women's National Basketball League in Australia with the Bendigo Spirit. She averaged 19.8 points per game, 15.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, becoming the league's top league scorer in 21-22 and led the league in rebounding in back-to-back seasons (2020, 21-22).

The Sky will host the Indiana Fever on Tuesday, May 24th at 7:00 p.m. CT at Wintrust Arena after the conclusion of the 2021 WNBA Championship Ring Ceremony and Banner Unveiling starting at 6:30 p.m. CT.
