Chicago Red Stars Fall in Kansas City 4-0

Kansas City, KS - Despite a promising first half, the Chicago Red Stars were unable to stave off the Kansas City Current attack and fell 4-0 in the club's third UKG Challenge Cup match. The team heads back to Chicago for a rematch against Portland Thorns FC Sunday, June 18, at SeatGeek Stadium.

KEY MOMENTS:

14' Kansas City's Kristen Hamilton finds space to take a shot, but Chicago's Kayla Sharples gets her foot in front of the shot to stop the danger

27' The Current's Debinha takes a shot from 30 yards out, but Alyssa Naeher safely guides it out of play

41' Kansas City go on a breakaway that ends with a shot by Michelle Cooper that's saved by Naeher

54' Kansas City's Debinha receives a pass at the top of Chicago's 18-yard box, takes a shot and curls it past a diving Naeher, 1-0 Kansas City

59' Off a corner kick, Vanessa DiBernardo receives a ball in Chicago's box after a scramble, and gets the ball into the net

62' The Current's Larsson, at the top of Chicago's penalty area, passes the ball to CeCe Kizer who gets another goal for the home team

64' Ava Cook dribbles into space and takes a shot from 20 yards out, but Kansas City's keeper scoops it up for the save

66' Chicago's Cheyna Matthews dribbles at the Current's defender, cuts to her right and takes a shot at goal that rebounds back for another shot for Matthews, but it hits to post and goes out of play

70' DiBernardo finds Debinha in Chicago's penalty area and she gets the ball into the net

GAME NOTES:

Tonight marked Addie McCain's first start and appearance in a Red Stars jersey. The midfielder makes her debut with the club against her former team, Kansas City

Kayla Sharples played her first big minutes tonight since coming off of the season-ending injury list. The defender won the most tackles for the Red Stars, had a shot on goal and outran multiple Current attackers to 50/50 balls that she cleared from danger
