Chicago Mustangs Defeat Milwaukee Wave 11-10 in Golden Goal Overtime

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL - The Chicago Mustangs, proud members of the Major Arena Soccer League (www.MASLSoccer.com), defeat the Milwaukee Wave, 11-10 in overtime, on December 31st.

The Chicago Mustangs take the immediate lead in the first quarter with Taylor Bond scoring in the first 14 seconds of the game. The Milwaukee Wave answered right back by scoring at just over one minute in. At 3:59 Taylor Bond scores his second goal of the game and capitalizes on the power play after Luis "Peewee" Ortega pokes the ball away from a Milwaukee attacker. At 10:30, Luis "Peewee" Ortega toe pokes the ball into the far side-netting scoring his first goal of the game. Then at 10:49 Milwaukee takes advantage of the power play and scores. Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista makes a big play at 12:12 stripping the Milwaukee defender of the ball and calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to score. Milwaukee responds with back-to-back goals late in the first quarter bringing the game to a tie 4-4.

At 2:49 in the second Milwaukee's Bato Radoncic receives a blue card for unsportsmanlike conduct. On the power play, Chicago's Efrain "Wilo" Martinez scores with a left-footed half-volley off a pass off the boards at 3:12. With Chicago on defense, Efrain "Wilo" Martinez saves the first Milwaukee attempt on the goal with his body, but Max Ferdinand of the Wave is able to put away the second opportunity at 5:09. The Chicago Mustang's Osvaldo Rojas scores at 8:07 and the first half comes to a close with Chicago leading Milwaukee 6-5.

The Chicago Mustangs return from halftime with strong defense, but they can't stop the Milwaukee Wave who score back-to-back goals at 4:31 and 4:57 in the third quarter. Milwaukee's Max Fernidad scores his third goal of the game at 11:56. Late in the third, tensions are high. At 13:23 Chicago's Efrain "Wilo" Martinez receives a blue card for unsportsmanlike conduct, Chicago's Carlos Pichardo receives a yellow card for delay of game and Milwaukee's Marcio Leite receives a blue card for unsportsmanlike conduct. The third quarter ends and finds the Mustangs trailing the Wave 6-8.

Chicago's Luis "Peewee" Ortega kicks off the fourth quarter with his second goal of the game, bringing the game to 7-8. At 1:37 Milwaukee's Max Fernidad scores and regains the two-point lead. Chicago manages to get a few shots off and at 4:29 Luis "Peewee" Ortega gets the hat trick, scoring his third goal of the evening. One minute later Luis "Peewee" Ortega takes a free kick and lays it off to Alexis Camarena who one-times it through the keeper's legs tying the game 9-9. With under thirty seconds left in the game, Luis "Peewee" Ortega scores landing Chicago in the lead 10-9. Seconds later, Milwaukee's Ian Bennett scores ending the fourth quarter in a tie 10-10 leading to golden goal overtime.

Just nine seconds in overtime Douglas Dos Santos, assisted by Ricardo Carvalho, is able to poke the ball into the net for the game-winning. The Chicago Mustangs win 11-10 over Milwaukee Wave. This is the third time Chicago has defeated Milwaukee this season.
