Chicago Mustangs Lose to Missouri Comets by One, 6-7

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL - The Chicago Mustangs, proud members of the Major Arena Soccer League (www.MASLSoccer.com), fall short and lose to the Missouri Comets by one, final score 6-7. This is the third match up of the season for the Mustangs and Comets and last time of the regular season.

With the battle for the coveted first place of central division in mind, both teams came out with good ball control and strong defense. At 11:33, Mustangs' Luis "Peewee" Ortega finds himself against the wall battling for possession. Comets get called for a foul and Peewee ends up leaving the game with an injury. Just before the close of the first quarter at 14:14, Ten Eyck of the Missouri Comets was able to slot the ball past the Mustangs' Jesus Flores. The quarter ends with the Mustangs behind the Comets, 0-1.

The second quarter begins with the Comets taking a few shots, but all saved by Mustangs goalkeeper Jesus Flores. Flores currently ranks #8 in the MASL goalkeeper standings. At 2:33, Mustangs' Efrain "Wilo" Martinez gets a shot off that deflects off a few players and into the goal tying the game, 1-1. At 4:01, the Comets' Vahid Assadpour scores, 1-2. Then at 8:08, Mustangs' Ephraim Beard finds himself defending a three-on-one and Comets' Stefan Stokic is able to tap the ball into the net, 1-3. Despite some huge saves by Mustangs' Flores, the Comets' Leo Gibson scores at 14:46. The first half ends with the Mustangs down by 3, 1-4.

The Chicago Mustangs return from halftime strong, maintaining good possession. A few minutes into the third, Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista gets the Comets' keeper one-on-one, chips it over his head and off the wall into the net. The goal gets called back for a hand ball. Score remains 1-4 until the Comets' Robert Palmer scores at 5:46. The Mustangs' Trajche "Loki" Lostovski, Osvaldo Rojas Rivera, and Robert Gunderson all get off a couple of shots, but none land in the net. At the end of the third the Mustangs continue to trail the Comets, 1-5.

The Mustangs start the fourth quarter with strong offense, taking numerous shots on the goal. At 4:32 those efforts pay off when Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista sends the ball straight past the goalkeeper. This is his first goal of the game for Bofo with an assist from Miguel Vaca, bringing the score to 2-5. Less than one minute later, the Comets regain their four goal lead when Ramone Palmer taps the ball in the net from the far post at 5:05, 2-6. Mustangs' Trajche "Loki" Lostovski assisted by Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista scores his first goal of the season at 7:14, 3-6. The Comets' Lucas Rodriguez hits a one-time shot past Jesus Flores at 10:05, 3-7. The Mustangs' Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista immediately put another one on the scoreboard at 10:59, 4-7. The Mustangs refuse to give up, at 12:33 Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista gets a hat trick bring the Mustangs within two goals of the Comets, 5-7. At 14:10 Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista, assisted by Douglas Dos Santos, slots the ball into the far side-netting. Despite a major comeback in the fourth, the Chicago Mustangs come up short, losing to the Comets 6-7. This Chicago Mustangs loss gives the Missouri Comets the lead in the MASL central division standings.
