HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL - The Chicago Mustangs, proud members of the Major Arena Soccer League (www.MASLSoccer.com), lose to the Detroit Waza 6-8 on February 28th. The Mustangs beat Detroit 10-6 in December.
The first quarter of the game starts with some good defense by the Chicago Mustangs. At 4:57, Detroit gets a goal on a powerplay, 0-1. A few attempts by Chicago go high and just to the right of the goal. The quarter ends with Detroit in the lead, 0-1.
The Chicago Mustangs bring the game to a tie 3:16 into the second quarter with Taylor Bond scoring on a powerplay, 1-1. Mustangs Efrain "Wilo" Martinez finds Douglas Dos Santos but his shot is blocked. Another attempt by Mustangs Alexis Camarena goes wide. At 7:40, Detroit gets a ball past Jesus Flores giving them the lead again, 1-2. The Mustangs score their next two two goals within 23 seconds of each other, one by Efrain "Wilo" Martinez assisted by Alexis Camarena at 9:33, and the next by Ephraim Beard at 9:56, giving Chicago their first game lead, 3-2. Chicago Mustangs Taylor Bond scores his second goal of the game at 14:26, assisted by Efrain "Wilo" Martinez, 4-2. Detroit responds quickly with a goal at 14:41 and the quarter ends with Chicago up 4-3.
The third quarter begins with a diving save by Chicago goalkeeper Jesus Flores blocking a shot by Detroit. At 6:11, Detroit puts one in the net bringing the game to a tie, 4-4. Chicago gets its first goal of the quarter by Alexis Camarena on a powerplay, 5-4. At 11:51, Detroit scores and the game is back to a tie, 5-5. With only 7 seconds left, Detroit scores again and the quarter ends with Detroit up 5-6.
The fourth quarter starts with Detroit scoring the first goal at 1:19 giving them a two point lead, 5-7. Chicago displays great defense and Brandon Loncar takes a shot that goes wide. At 7:08, Detroit's Zach Bowman scores his third goal of the game, 5-8. The Mustangs have a lot of possession and Trajche Lostovski takes a left footed blast that is saved by Detroit. With seven seconds left, Chicago Mustangs Osvaldo Rojas Rivera scores a goal and the game ends at 6-8.
