CHICAGO- Out of the gate, Chicago played like a team on fire for its city.
The Mustangs buried a season-high four goals in the opening quarter, but couldn't continue the momentum in a 9-7 loss to Cedar Rapids at the Sears Centre Arena.
Chicago (9-8) connected passes well in the first period. On its opening goal, defender Edwin Rojas played a long ball to the sideline that defender Ephraim Beard knocked down to midfielder Mario Alvarez and his shot was deflected in by forward Osvaldo Rojas. Following goals by forward Taylor Bond and Beard, midfielder Alexis Camarena gave Chicago a 4-2 lead with a hit from inside the third line after being a pair of defenders.
The Mustangs took their largest lead of the game at 6-3 after goals from Camarena and midfielder Mario Alvarez. It was Alvarez's second game back from from a broken foot in August.
Bond and the Rampage traded goals, before Cedar Rapids (12-7) scored four unanswered goals to take its first lead of the game with 9.2 seconds left in the third frame on a goal by forward Tony Walls after a scramble in front of the net.
Cedar Rapids scored once more in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs travel to Tacoma on Friday, Feb. 24, before hosting Ontario in the home-finale Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m., at the Sears Centre Arena.
