CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Missouri Comets (10-2) bounced back and swept the series against expansion side and Central Division opponent Cedar Rapids Rampage (1-9) with a dominating 11-4 victory in front of 3,110 fans at the U.S. Cellular Center with a massive second half with six consecutive tallies.
Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team will now return home for the third match in five days this Saturday when they host the Milwaukee Wave at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
The Comets were led by both team captain and league-leader Vahid Assadpour and MASL Defender of the Year finalist John Sosa each with four points. In addition, goalkeeper Stephen Paterson made his first appearance of the year and recorded 20 saves.
Cedar Rapids came out to the field strong and after a couple attempts they found the back of the net first to take a 1-0 lead. However, goals from Assadpour and midfielder Milan Ivanovic ended the period with the Comets up 2-1.
Less than two minutes into the second stanza, hometown midfielder Jacob Johnson equalized for the home team but the Comets reacted with three straight tallies by Sosa, MVP Leo Gibson and Kiel Williams. Cedar Rapids' Semir Mesanovic shortened the lead with 13 seconds left in the half making it 5-3 in favor of the visitors.
A very offensive Comets team returned to the field from the fifteen-minute break and scored six unanswered goals throughout the third and fourth quarters. Two goals in less than a minute for Robert Palmer, a brace from Lucas Rodriguez as well as goals from Ramone Palmer and Assadpour and a lone goal from "Chile" Farias ended the match with a final score of 11-4 for Missouri's tenth win of the season.
