TUCSON, Ariz. (Feb. 26, 2014) - The Chicago Fire fell 1-0 to the New England Revolution Wednesday afternoon in the Desert Diamond Cup preseason tournament. The Revolution's Kelyn Rowe scored the only goal of the match in second half stoppage time as the Fire dropped their first game in seven preseason matches.
The Fire's best chance came in the 33rd minute when Dilly Duka raced down the left flank and found Jeff Larentowicz in front of goal. With a sliding volley, Larentowicz's shot looked destined for goal but Revolution 'keeper Brad Knighton got a palm to it and batted it away.
Rowe would notch the only goal of the match in the 91st minute after a give-and-go with Diego Fagundez.
The Fire nearly pulled one back immediately following the goal but Quincy Amarikwa's shot clanged off the cross bar as the match ended 1-0 in the Revolution's favor.
Despite the loss, the Fire finished first in the group stages and have advanced to the championship match of the Desert Diamond Cup, where they will face the Chivas de Guadalajara Development Team on Saturday, March 1 at a time to be determined. Tickets for the match are available here.
Single game tickets to the Fire's 17 MLS Regular Season home matches and to the July 26 international friendly against Barclay's Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur FC are now available via Ticketmaster and www.Chicago-Fire.com.
