Revolution's Jerry Bengtson called up to Honduras for Venezuela friendly

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution forward Jerry Bengtson has been called up to represent Honduras during the country's friendly against Venezuela next week.

Honduras, which is currently ranked 40th in the world in the most recent FIFA rankings, will meet 35th-ranked Venezuela on Wednesday, March 5, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, in a friendly match that falls on the March FIFA date.

Bengtson will travel to Honduras from Tucson, Ariz., on Sunday, March 2, and he will re-join the Revolution in Houston on March 6 when the team arrives for its season opener against the Dynamo on March 8.

Bengtson has 40 appearances for Honduras and has scored 18 international goals. Bengtson's last appearance came on Nov. 16, 2013, in a 5-0 loss to Brazil in Miami, while his last international goal was the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Costa Rica on Oct. 11, 2013.

Honduras is one of four CONCACAF teams - along with the U.S., Costa Rica and Mexico - that qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Honduras was drawn into Group E at the World Cup and will face Ecuador, France and Switzerland in group play, beginning June 15.
