Manitoba Moose News Release

It was a goaltending dual on Friday night at the Allstate Arena, as both Cory Schneider and Manny Legace were flawless through 65 minutes of play and the game was forced into a shootout to decide the winner. Captain Mike Keane was the first Moose skater to capitalize while Matt Pettinger's top-shelf goal confirmed a 1-0 shootout victory over the Chicago club.

Back-to-back interference penalties were handed to Manitoba, giving the home team two man-advantages to start the game. Despite racking up a total of five shots on the powerplay, the Wolves couldn't break Manitoba's penalty killers or starting goaltender Cory Schneider.

A handful of excellent scoring opportunities for the Wolves and a few for the Moose highlighted the rest of the frame, but neither club managed to break their goose-egg and the scoreless game extended into the second period.

Manitoba started the second stanza on the powerplay when Arturs Kulda was charged for hooking at the 20-minute mark of the first period. The visiting Moose didn't register a single shot on net minder Manny Legace before the two-minute minor expired.

The Moose benefited from three additional powerplays in the ladder half of the second, but the visitors couldn't generate enough quality scoring opportunities to get the opening marker.

Manitoba had completed a fifth unsuccessful powerplay and posted their 37th unsuccessful attempt early in the third period when a Chicago hooking call gave the club another crack at breaking their goose-egg.

With 11:40 left in the game, the two clubs sat even with 20 shots apiece. By the end of the final frame, the Moose were ahead in the shot department, 27-20, but neither goaltender would give and the game was forced into overtime.

Overtime The Moose broke the 30-shot mark in the extra period, but even with a flurry of shots on net in the final seconds the visiting team couldn't score. Both goaltenders were flawless throughout 65 minutes of play and the game was forced into a shootout.
