 Owen Sound Attack

Chenard Shines in OHL Debut for 3-2 Win over Storm

September 28, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack hosted the Guelph Storm tonight at the Bayshore looking for revenge after a 4-0 loss the night before. Prior to the game, the Attack encouraged fans to bring new or gently used hockey sticks to the bayshore for #SticksForSoldiers, a program that donates hockey sticks to military members stationed overseas. In partnership with the Military Family Resource Centre Meaford, we were able to collect dozens of sticks.

Two rookie goaltenders saw their first action in the league tonight, with Nick Chenard getting the nod for Owen Sound and Owen Bennett received the start for Guelph. Both goalies were up to the challenge early in a more eventful first period than Friday night in Guelph. It wasn't until the 15 minute mark when Matt Philip dislodged a puck on the forecheck that bounced onto the stick of Kaleb Pearson, who stepped out in front of the net and wired it home for his first of the season. The lead would hold into the first intermission with the Attack up 1-0.

The second period saw Guelph tie it up early with Andrei Bakanov taking advantage of a power play opportunity and one timing a blast past Chenard and into the Attack net. Just a few minutes later, Owen Sound would respond on a power play of their own with Daylon Groulx tapping home a rebound in front of his Southern Tier Admiral Alumni in section S. The Attack would hang onto their lead for the remainder of the second period with the help of Chenard in the Owen Sound crease.

Entering the third, Owen Sound clung to a slim 2-1 lead, hoping to ride out the Storm in front of the Bayshore faithful. Unfortunately, Keegan Stevenson would redirect a point shot past the rookie netminder to tie the game with 13 minutes remaining in the contest.

The Hatten Home Hardware Hardest Working Player was Carter Robertson. The three stars of the game were Brady Lyle (2 assists), Owen Bennett (39 saves in OHL debut), and the first star was Nick Chenard, making 37 saves in his OHL debut for his first career win.

The Owen Sound Attack are in action next Friday against the Kitchener Rangers. The next Attack home game is Saturday, October 5th against the Flint Firebirds. Tickets are available at the MacVicar & McComb Remax Attack Box Office. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
