Chicago Stars FC News Release
CHICAGO, Ill. - Chicago Red Stars forward, Chelsie Dawber, has been called up by Football Australia to join the 35-player preliminary squad for the 2022 AFF Women's Championships group stage.
Dawber's previous experience with the national team includes playing with the under-20 and under-14 Australian teams. During the tournament, Australia will face the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
Dawber made her first appearance with the Red Stars Saturday, June 12, starting the match against the Orlando Pride. In 45 minutes Dawber was able to win back possession for the Red Stars and made two key passes that created scoring chances for the team. Despite her limited experience with the Red Stars, Head Coach Chris Petrucelli is excited about what she brings to the team saying, "Chelsie is an impressive young player. She has proven she can score goals at a high level, play multiple positions and still be effective. She adds versatility and athleticism to an already dangerous attacking group."
Dawber joined the Red Stars earlier this season from Adelaide United FC of the Australian A-League Women. In the 2021-2022 season, Dawber scored 10 goals in 15 matches for Adelaide. Since 2017, Dawber played 42 matches for Adelaide and scored 17 goals in her five seasons with the club.
